On October 24th, 25th, and 26th Masters training was held at Lotus Blossom Martial arts in Salt Lake City, Utah. Training was held in two, two hour periods each day. Training conducted was Ssang Soo gum Bup, Yedo gum bup, Bonguk gum bup and Jaengbeak gum pup. There was also detailed instruction on the defensive side of Gyuk Gum training, learning how to counter attack against Gyuk Gum offense. Finally their was detailed instruction on correct Haidong Gumdo style and criteria on bamboo cutting. Masters involved came from all over the United States of America stretching from California to Maryland, and included 5 states and represented 13 different Dojangs. Training was held by direction of Chief of education, Master Jeong Woo Kim and under the supervision of Chief Master Marshall Parnell. Involved Masters were: Jerry Laurita, James Alan, Russel Hess, Allen Hughes, Carrie Hughes, Jason Cleverly, Julian Vasquez, Mike McGowan , Steve Wallenda, Felipe Quintana, Troy Yoho and Instructor Cathleen Martinez. |

On November 7th and 8th in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Chief Master Peter Oien held the 19th annual NAKF invitational tournament. This tournament has been held annually as a Tang Soo Do martial arts event that has divisions is sparring, breaking, weapon forms, and traditional forms. However for the past 4 years Haidong Gumdo has been held as a separate division. This year competitors traveled from 7 states ranging as far West as Alaska and Utah all the way to New York to compete in color belt, black belt and master forms. There were an estimated 50 students competing from more than 23 dojangs spread accross the United States of America. The tournament was a huge success with over 600 trophies awarded and filled the huge location with competitors and spectators. As well there were over 23 masters in attendance with Chief Masters Peter Oiens, Ralph Estrada, Marshall Parnell, and Laura Clements. It was the first time each of the Chief Masters were in one location in the USA. The Following day, November 9th, a Black Belt test was held in great success and keeping with the highest traditions of the World Haidong Gumdo Federation. |
We are updating the Member's Registry List with information about each Master and what level they currently are at in their training. The U.S. Headquarters wants to schedule appropriate training events to help Masters advance in rank and knowledge. The information needed is: Name, School Name, Address, all phone numbers where you can be reached, website, email, Dan rank, certificate number and date, birthday, uniform type (black, Navy, Royal blue, or white), the Gumbub set you have completed (ssang su, yedo, bonkuk, jang bek, etc.) who your instructing Master is, who it was that introduced you to Haidong Gumdo, and what you think you need more training in.
We are also committed in fulfilling all requests for items you have not received for your students who have tested or items you have not received from your Master's Package. If you have any misspelled items, wrong sizes, missing items, missing swords or missing I.D. cards, please notify us.
